We combine survey information, calculation software, and people, to produce cost effective, sustainable designs tailored to exceed client expectations.
Typical designs that GEMENG undertake range from 400V/230V distribution design to 650V signalling power design to earthing and bonding design.
This portfolio illustrates the diversity of our Industry projects, which vary in terms of size and cost.
Detection and localization of both insulator and conductor faults on live, low-voltage, unearthed power distribution systems in difficult environments. Insulation monitoring and fault location systems required for use on power distribution system in selected areas. Gemeng works in conjunction with clients and manufacturers of this new technology to design a cable monitoring system that's right for the client. Organizing and synchronizing site surveys at locations with considerable risk factors, such as restricted access, stringent schedules, and installation in areas with the best possible cellular phone reception, necessitates comprehensive risk assessment, electrical computations, and conforming electrical design of the system.
We provide assistance in upgrading existing insulation monitoring systems. This system facilitates the division of signalling power supply systems into sections for the purpose of monitoring power cables, thus enabling more efficient fault detection, more effective reactive/proactive operations, and the capacity to further enhance the system as needed.
No one wants to experience power outages, which is why it is crucial to ensure smooth transitions of electricity supply while minimizing downtime. At GEMENG, we specialize in designing solutions that allow for the uninterrupted operation of one component of an existing Signalling Power system, while preventing power loss to other components.
When integrating new components into a 650V Signalling Power Supply & Distribution system, we prioritize safety and efficiency. Our team provides prompt and expert assistance to customers, ensuring that downtime is minimized through successful staging and testing of new equipment. We understand the importance of keeping disruptions to a minimum and strive to deliver reliable solutions for our clients.
Our design engineers specialise in commercial installations, data centres and domestic installations. By collaborating with leading manufacturers, we can provide our clients with a range of lighting design solutions, from commercial schemes to railway junction lighting.
Recently, we completed a lighting design for an underpass as part of a local Council's regeneration project. This area had been subject to vandalism, graffiti and complaints of inadequate lighting, and was also frequented by wildlife. We designed the project in a sustainable manner, allowing the installation team to minimise disturbance to local wildlife and install light fittings that were suitable, robust and aesthetically pleasing.
The team maintained close contact with lighting manufacturers and the local Council to ensure the project was completed on time and within budget. They took into account considerations such as containment types, cable sizes, containment locations/routes and glare.
Our goals were achieved through bespoke design and regular communication with stakeholders, making sure that the programme accounted for environmental impacts and proposed equipment would not have an adverse effect.
It was necessary to install new EV charging points at various locations in order to help the client achieve their sustainability objectives.
A Power System Analysis was conducted to design the power supply, and a Lighting Design was implemented to ensure the required illuminance was present.
Challenges were encountered while creating site-specific designs that took into account external factors that had a detrimental effect on the existing electrical system. Furthermore, due to the geographical locations and external system influences, there were significant constraints when it came to supplying the bays from existing power supply networks.
To address this, detailed site surveys were conducted, including load monitoring, and design calculations and documentation were produced to detail the necessary power supply modifications and electrical protection requirements.
Through close collaboration with the client and manufacturers, a tailored design solution was provided for each site, helping the client to electrify their entire fleet in the coming years.
In addition to the day-to-day earthing and bonding proposals that form part of our designs, we can also provide bespoke designs as and when required by our clients. Equipment located in areas with Live Overhead Lines (OLE) in close vicinity necessitates the provision of a path from the equipment back to the OLE installation in the event of contact.

designs ensuring the Low Voltage (LV) system is assessed and, if required, bonded to traction return via suitably sized bonding conductors, which we specify via the production of Site Layout drawings and reports identifying bond and cable route detail.
Our team also undertake site surveys of commercial installations and condition assessments, reviewing existing information and undertaking correlation exercises on site before recommending upgrades, if required, and/or undertaking design.
All of our designers are experienced in earthing and bonding across mission-critical, railway, pharmaceutical, industrial, healthcare, educational, infrastructure, and technology sectors.
We provide comprehensive Railway training services across the UK and Ireland, catering to the needs of prominent professional organizations. Additionally, we frequently visit universities to deliver informative talks and offer assistance in the field of STEM.
